A Company Of Longstanding Pedigree
J & E Hall Limited has more than 200 years experience of fine engineering to boast and today it provides a complete service to refrigeration and air conditioning users throughout the UK. The organisation employs over 300 staff; this includes around 120 service engineers. It has offices strategically sited around the UK in cities including Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Southampton and Kent. J & E Hall Limited is part of a larger multinational corporation, AAF McQuay International, a global leader in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry.
A key goal for the company over the years has been to focus on quality and customer service. Today its engineering centre of excellence, based in Dartford, ensures that projects are well engineered and project managed. This is why it has been accredited to ISO 9001, an internationally recognised seal of quality. Providing a first class service to its customers has been key to the organisation’s success and why it can boast such a long trading history, tracing way back to 1785.
Working With The Experts
J & E Hall Limited provides its customers with a complete service, from proposal to engineering design, procurement, installation, commissioning and nationwide after sales support. Whatever the application, the organisation has the experience and capability to provide a technically sound and cost-effective solution. It operates a 160-strong vehicle fleet that includes commercial vans to support the UK service network and company cars for employees.
In April 1996, J & E Hall Limited decided to outsource its fleet management to an external supplier and nearly ten years on it is still outsourcing to the same fleet management specialist – Venson. By entering into this ten year long partnership with Venson, it has allowed J & E Hall Limited to refocus on its core business competencies – engineering. This has ensured that its customers receive excellent quality service and the company achieves tangible financial benefits.
Clive Morgan, HR Director, based in J & E Hall Headquarters in Dartford, Kent comments on the longstanding relationship:
“Our business is refrigeration and air conditioning, our expertise is not in managing a fleet of vehicles. Ten years ago when we took the decision to outsource, we also looked at hiring resources internally to manage the fleet but decided that our time would be better spent running the business.
There is no added value in our fleet of cars; these vehicles are the necessary tools of the trade that allow our employees to provide a first class support service to our customers. We have therefore hired Fleet Management experts, Venson, to focus on doing what they know best, while we focus on building our business.”
Negotiating Better Business Terms
Venson’s partnership with J & E Hall Limited provides all the services that an in-house Fleet Manager might typically deliver and more. This includes working directly with the drivers, who range from sales staff to installation engineers to after service & support. The 200-strong fleet comprises of a mix of both commercial vans and company cars. This fleet of vehicles must be ‘on the road’ and available 24 hours a day to enable the organisation to run an efficient service network. Over the years, Venson has consistently delivered increases in fleet availability, enabling financial savings and operational benefits to the business.
J & E Hall Limited has fully outsourced the fleet management, including vehicle procurement, service and maintenance. The contract with Venson currently provides:
• Vehicle procurement, equip-for-service and disposal • Mechanical and accident repair and maintenance services • Comprehensive fleet availability management • 24/7/365 vehicle response services • Accident repairs • Inspections, servicing, MOTs and a specialist collection & delivery facility.
Commenting on the success of the partnership, Clive Morgan concludes:
“We have a formal review with Venson on a quarterly basis. However, we feel so comfortable now, the relationship is almost like a marriage. The benefits are far reaching, for example, Venson is able to negotiate better prices on our behalf with local dealers throughout the UK, something that we could never do as our fleet is so fragmented.
In addition, Venson helps us to stay abreast of fleet management policy. As the Director of Human Resources I need to ensure that we continually review our company car policy and that this is aligned with current market expectations. Every few years, Venson provides us with indepth market reports and consultancy on Company fleet policy, providing us with ‘real’ examples of what other organisations are doing as well as analytical information. This enables us to not only review our policy with confidence but we can also ensure that the optimum benefits are passed onto our employees.”
